yes it was strange, I thought at one point it had grown or moved. Have not been able to find anything visually about mites or parasites on Icelandic bumble bees. If I do find out I will report back. These bees and an assortment of flies are in the green houses. As are many spiders as you would expect.
Hi, didn't know bumble bees could suffer such... but there are many photos of mites on bees - don't look like 'yours' but it has to be a possibility. lovely flower photos above - J&G

Thank you J&G, keep checking the bees for mites here so far, none, have no idea what the purple "thing" was. It would be great to find out.
