During this years drought, in which the well here at Vallanes Organic Farm has run dry, the small river also dried up, leaving pools in which many ducks including this Wigeon have spent a lot of time.
The well is being filled once a week by milk tanker, the river is still waiting for rain.

A dozing and preening Common Snipe - Gallinago gallinago

I was really lucky with this bird. I noticed it dozing and crept up to photograph first from one side then the other. It paid me almost no attention until I was about 3 feet away. Then it flew a few yards further on and began preening. A lucky day.
